September 17, 2007

(Denver, CO)  This week, the Graebel Movers International headquarters celebrated the announcement of its Certificate of Registration for the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS).  Graebel is among the first in the relocation industry to receive this designation.

Similar to the Quality Management System implemented for ISO 9001:2000, the ISO14001 requires implementation of an Environmental Management System in accordance with defined internationally recognized standards.

The ISO 14001 standard specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects & impacts of products/activities/services, planning environmental objectives and measurable targets, implementation & operation of programs to meet objectives & targets, checking & corrective action, and management review.

“In less than 6 months after challenging our International home office team to apply, we received it!  We are extremely proud of our people and their efforts that led to this significant point in Environmental Management.  From our founding nearly 60-years ago, it has been our mission to ‘do it right the first time’ and we achieve this by doing the right things,” stated Bill Graebel, President of Graebel Movers International, Inc., and Chief Operating Officer of Graebel Companies, Inc.  “We sought this certification not because it’s good management, but rather we sought this because it was the right thing to do.  And, this clearly demonstrates that we are concerned about the environment and that we take seriously our stewardship.”

The key to a successful ISO14001 EMS is having documented procedures that are implemented and maintained in such a way that successful achievement of environmental goals commensurate with the nature and scale of activities is promoted.  The EMS must include appropriate monitoring and review to ensure effective EMS functioning and to identify and implement corrective measures in a timely manner.

Mr. Graebel elaborated, “The ISO 14001 certification demonstrates international recognition that a company is living up to a widely respected set of rigorous environmental management standards and to its environmental responsibilities set forth by over 2,000 experts from around the world.  Our objective is to achieve ISO 14001 at all of our International forwarding offices, and among all of our Graebel divisions.”
