AURORA, COLO. — Graebel Companies, Inc. recently announced the winners of the Graebel University Scholarship for the 2010 and 2011 academic year. Graebel awarded the scholarship to seven students across the country, each receiving fifteen hundred dollars to use towards college expenses.

The recipients were selected by a panel of three judges, including two outside education professionals and Bill Graebel, chief executive officer of Graebel Companies, Inc. College-bound children of Graebel employees and drivers were eligible and nineteen students applied. The seven recipients are:

·         Andrew Dymond – Junior at Vassar, majoring in Media Studies

·         Samantha Kordonowy – Junior at UW Madison, majoring in Social Work

·         Mallory Meiklejohn – Junior at UW Madison, majoring in Elementary Education

·         Marc Meiklejohn – Freshman at UW Madison, majoring in Business

·         Kimberly St. Julian – Sophomore at Swarthmore College, majoring in History with a
minor in Political Science

·         Anastasia Wild – Sophomore at WI Lutheran/College of Lake County, majoring in Nursing

“Graebel had a very impressive group of students apply for the Graebel scholarship this year,” says Bill Graebel. “This year’s judging panel made every effort to select individuals who demonstrated a clear sense of purpose, leadership, and genuine engagement in their communities. Each student who applied came across as caring, having a positive influence in the lives of others, and wanting to leave the world a better place.”

Judging was based on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, a sense of purpose and aspirations, overall resourcefulness and ambition, and values and ethics that were woven through essays.

The Graebel University Scholarship was created in 1986 by the late Mrs. Lois Graebel, wife of founder David Graebel, who strongly valued academic and community leadership.
