ALEXANDRIA, Va. – David Graebel of Graebel Companies, Inc. is the recipient of the Moving and Storage Institute’s 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service. Mr. Graebel received the highest honor bestowed by the moving industry tonight during the closing dinner of AMSA’s Annual Education Conference & Expo in Orlando, Fla.
Mr. Graebel founded his company in 1950 with one truck and a philosophy to provide unusual service and value. Today, the organization he has built is recognized as the world’s largest privately-held relocation company. It is also the only organization that wholly-owns its third party relocation and move management companies, a U.S. van line, an international forwarding operation, coast-to-coast U.S. moving and storage centers and a commercial workplace services division.
Under his leadership, the Graebel Companies have led the relocation industry in customer-centric innovations such as 24-7-365 customer service and account accessibility, simplified tariffs and bundled service pricing, and performance guarantees. As a board member for several major corporations, Mr. Graebel is widely recognized for his strategic vision, business savvy and philanthropic endeavors over the past 58 years.
“AMSA is so pleased to be able to honor a remarkable and visionary leader in our industry with our highest award,” said AMSA President & CEO Linda Bauer Darr. “David Graebel is so deserving of this recognition and I congratulate him. I’m also delighted we were able to somehow keep the news a secret and surprise him in front of so many of his colleagues and members of his family.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service is given annually to an AMSA member who is active in the organization and has a minimum of twenty years of service in the industry. The individual must have contributed to the planning, promotion and execution of a special project and/or have advanced the industry through technological development, services or techniques. Additionally, the winner must have enhanced the overall public image of the moving and storage industry through leadership within the community.
Nominations are made by members of the AMSA Board of Directors, state association executives and prior award recipients, as well as members of the Moving and Storage Institute’s Board of Trustees, who also judge the nominations and select the winning candidate. The winner’s identity remains confidential until the award is announced during AMSA’s Annual Education Conference & Expo.
